Committees

Participating on committees provides members opportunities to assist BOMA Kansas City in achieving its strategic objectives and program goals. Committees are established to address ongoing issues affecting the commercial real estate industry. Committee participation gives members direct involvement in the planning and execution of BOMA's activities and directives.

Allied/Programs Committee

The Allied Council Committee serves as the representative body for the Allied (vendor) members.  They create a supportive interaction between principal and allied members.  The committee plans and conducts at least three events (i.e. Spotlights and/or social) per year to encourage networking relationships.  Two members of the Allied Committee serve on the board of directors.  Allied Directors will bring the concerns and suggestions of the Allied members to the board.   The Committee will research projects needed in the community and develop plans to encourage the participation by the association, as well as, hold an annual meeting and recruit allied members to the committee.

Education & Seminars Committee

The Education & Seminars Committee is responsible to plan and publish class schedules locally and regionally. The committee will promote BOMA International educational programs and office building management operational topics. The committee will utilize BOMA International publications and reference materials on the office building market, regulatory matters, and building management and operations.  The Kansas City BOMA Association provides local, on-going classroom study fortwo of the professional designations granted by the Building Owners and Managers Institute:  the Real Property Administrator (RPA), and the Facilities Management Administrator (FMA).The classes are an accelerated format and held at a metropolitan Kansas City locations.  The committee will collaborate with local formal educational institutes and the Built Environment Partnership (BEP) to broaden educational opportunities. 

BEP is a collaboration of organizations coming together to offer a unified educational calendar to foster and to make multiple events are not offered at the same time.  BEP is currently made up of: ASHRAE, BOMA KC, IFMA, AWMA and USGBC.

Government Advocacy Committee

Legislative Affairs Committee monitors, studies and recommends policy direction and advocacy strategies on legislative and regulatory matters that affect the commercial office building industry.  The committee conducts fund-raising efforts on behalf of BOMA PAC and the Commercial Real Estate Industry (CRI) PAC.  The committee chair will serve alternating terms with BOMA St. Louis on the board of CRI PAC .

Through the combined efforts of BOMA Kansas City and BOMA International, the interests of members are kept in front of legislators and regulators at the local, state and federal levels, when they are introducing changes that could mean unwarranted costs to the office building industry and the companies that make it up. 

BOMA Kansas City's Legislative Affairs Committee will monitor the content and progress of bills introduced in Jefferson City and Topeka relating to commercial real estate.  The committee also monitors proposed ordinances in the major municipalities within the metropolitan area on both sides of the state line. The committee will visit Jefferson City and Topeka at least one time per calendar year to lobby state legislators representing the metropolitan Kansas City area. 

The Advocacy Committee will utilize BOMA International's government affairs staff for information on federal legislative and regulatory issues. BOMA International also represents building owners and managers with the various building codes organizations. The Legislative Affairs Committee is the only committee that does not allow Allied members to attend due to a potential conflict of interest.

Kansas City Commercial Real Estate EXPOSM Committee

The EXPO Committee is responsible to budget, plan, coordinate and execute the Annual Commercial Real Estate Expo.  Committee will secure location and work with other committees as needed to plan education sessions and fundraising.  They will communicate with greater KC real estate community in regards to Expo participation. The Commercial Real Estate EXPO is one of the major fundraising events of the Association

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible to oversee the association’s membership policies.  The committee reviews and evaluates the membership categories and pricing for potential changes if needed.   The committee plans and conducts the ongoing membership campaign of the association.  The committee meets with new members to discuss the association.

Social Committee

The Social Committee is responsible is to plan and implements social activities for the association as approved by the Board of Directors. They assist/coordinate publicity for other committees’ events.   The Annual Holiday party is one of the social events.  The Holiday party includes raising monies for local charities and advocacy.

Sports Outing Committee

The Sports Outing Committee plans and conducts the annual golf tournament.  The activities included raising monies for real estate political action committees (PACs) and local charities.  The golf tournament is one of the major fundraising events of the Association.
